1959 Something Blue
This dress was featured in our fashion show fundraiser and 100% of its profits will be donated to the Emmanuel Home of Protection in Nicaragua. This is a safe home for young girls who have been abused and impregnated usually by family members. The home provides a safe environment for the girls to grow and heal from the traumas they've experienced.
Beautiful heirloom wedding dress originally worn May 9, 1959 and again in 1992. The dress was purchased at the NYC market and worn in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Featuring an icy blue color, its perfect for a bride looking for a unique dress! This dress entailed a lot of restoration work which began with a thorough cleaning. Next we changed the sleeve style to a cap and used the fabric to make four flowers to cover staining and damage on the back of the dress. We made a larger white flower for the center and completed each flower with a pearl core.
Measurements:
Bust 32 inches
Waist 24 inches
Length 53 inches
In good condition. A few signs of the age/dry rotting on silk near buttons on the back. Silk flowers created and placed over 3 larger stains on skirt back. Lace panel on skirt front reworked to remove previous stains. Otherwise in great structural condition. Please note all items are vintage and might have minor signs of wear due to its age.
The dress is modeled with a crinoline to achieve the authentic 1960s look. Please note these undergarments are not included with the dress, but I’m more than happy to recommend shops where you can find similar pieces to recreate this silhouette.
